Solving the Digital Divide for Remote Learning & Closing the Homework Gap

As President Obama has iterated, "It is our generation's task ... to reignite the true engine of America's economic growth—a rising, thriving middle class." Reigniting that engine depends on education, preschool through 12th grade and beyond, strong enough to prepare all students for college, careers, and the innovation-based economy in which they will make their living.”

According to the Washington Post and the U.S. Department of Education, the pandemic has forced an overwhelming number of families into remote learning. This puts many students and communities at a disadvantage, because of the inconsistent availability of broadband across all communities. The number of students failing classes has risen by as many as two or three times, primarily affecting minorities, non-English speakers, and those with disabilities, leaving us with the “Homework Gap” problem. Given this unique problem, remote learning is not a viable long-term solution for many students and educators.

We believe that a partnership between carries and Hybrid Wireless can solve this problem by pairing both carriers geographic tower locations and dark fiber with Hybrid Wireless’s solar powered Wi-Fi nodes called Bumble-Bs; this will enable us to provide greater broadband coverage at half (½) the cost and at a quarter (¼) of the time, promoting the world’s first “Green Wi-Fi Network” while tackling digital inequality still present in too many of our communities.

To provide a bit more background about us, we are a U.S. based LLC with a qualified, diverse leadership team, with over 25 years of experience in Smart Cities, Telecommunications, Wi-Fi Broadband, and service provisioning both on a national and international scale.

Given the fact that the Cares Act, Broadband Data Act, HB 1826, and many more are earmarking funds to expand broadband access to better support students, we see an opportunity to utilize these funds in conjunction with a broadband fee to provide a robust revenue stream that has the potential to limit the investment time horizon to 0-24 months. Our financial and business models are specific to each of the 13,506 School Districts, providing greater financial flexibility and delivered value.

We would like to ask Carrier Executive, Technology, Real estate, and Government Affairs team to assist us in obtaining federal funding for a National Green Powered Broadband Network to address the inherent problems in remote learning that countless schools are facing during this pandemic and close the “Homework Gap” for the betterment of future generations of our country.
